Simple social media moves that can help you stand out

In our digitalised world, almost everybody has at least one form of social media account.

Social media is an outlet for fun and entertainment, but it is also a great marketing tool to give your company or your business presence a personality.

Likeable Media Dave Kerpen shares some simple tips to up your product, service, or intention on social media platforms.

1. Listen, then talk

The internet is an open space where anybody can tap into your thoughts or life events.

Kerpen had a bad hotel experience at a hotel in Las Vegas. He tweeted it, and later on, a competitor replied to him and wished the rest of his trip will be a better experience.

On his next trip to the casino city, he booked a stay with them.

By replying to his tweet, the hotel showed empathy and that they listen to their customers – potential or existing.

He said that many companies or people are using the internet to promote their services or products. It can be a great marketing tool to directly communicate with your customers.

2. Respond

As most of the posts on the internet are public, any negative posts are seen by almost everybody. Therefore, if you do receive complaints or bad reviews, replying to them on the same channel is a great way to display your customer service skills.

You are also telling the person that their feedback matters and are valued as you are taking constructive action.

However, if you received any obscene posts or had previously uploaded photos of unruly behaviour, it is best to take them down.

3. Tell, don’t sell

Social media is a tricky platform to sell products and services as it requires a new kind of finesse. Consumers are tech-savvy these days and will research before making a purchase.

As such, reviews and influencers are great ways to promote your products.

Through personal stories and experiences, people feel that the reviews are more genuine and relatable.

Other than the popular tools like Facebook or Instagram, hosting a blog and producing white papers, e-books or videos are also different ways you can tell your brand story.

4. Gratitude

In supermarkets and department stores, loyalty cards and memberships are popular ways used to retain customers.

On social media, it can come in the form of gratitude by sharing free information, giveaways, or linking people up to the right products and services.

Also, recognising your long-term supporters and employees is also a great way to build up a positive social media presence.
