How to make online recruitment a success

With the unpredictable nature of COVID-19 safe distancing measures, it can be a challenge to plan physical recruitment events.

It is not surprising there has been a boost of online job fairs on apps or video meeting platforms. Learn some tips to make your company stand out and soothe out the kinks when you run these events.

Give it a personal touch

Waiting rooms or breakout rooms? Leverage the meeting platform’s features to your advantage.

While virtual cannot duplicate the physical experience, HR managers can get creative in producing new video clips or “goodie bags” to improve the company’s attractiveness.

If possible, during a hiring fair, management personnel can drop in to welcome the candidates and provide an opportunity to highlight key messages from the company.

Give candidates options

We have all heard of “Zoom fatigue” – the feeling of mental tiredness after long hours of online meetings.

Instead of having an hour-long interview, why not ask the candidate to prep questions in a video format to be sent beforehand.

By getting the know the candidates better through the videos, recruiting managers can prepare better questions and cut out the small talk. It also shows their personality and allows them to be comfortable in their environment.

Be flexible

Online meetings can have unexpected kinks. Internet connection or bad audio – there can be many hiccups and cause an unpleasant for both recruiter and candidate.

Give applicants a chance to reschedule or provide materials for them to peruse. By offering alternatives, the company won’t miss out on any good candidates and customise an experience for them.
